Love, love, love

Organic wines and the Bordeaux-Aquitaine National Orchestra.

This was one of the highlights of Bordeaux Fête le Vin 2016: a tasting of organic wines combined with a concert by the ONBA, in Darwin’s Grande Halle. "Organic wine has been represented at previous Bordeaux Fête le Vin festivals, but with this we had much greater visibility”, comments Gwenaëlle Le Guillou, Director of the Union of Organic wines. “In 2018, we are repeating the event, and taking it further.”

Organic winegrowers will of course, once again, be at the heart of this unique event, with the tasting of a wide range of wines, from various appellations in the Bordeaux region, and neighbouring regions such as Bergerac, Duras, Jurançon, Irouléguy, etc.

The new feature will come in the form of Paul Daniel, the popular, highly-acclaimed English director of the ONBA. With a nod to Liverpool, the city from which the Tall Ships Regatta will be departing, he will be adding a few Beatles tunes to his orchestra’s repertoire, including some extracts from the famous Sergeants Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

In 2016 the musicians surprised the audience by donning jeans and trainers, in the Darwin style, instead of their traditional black tailcoats; we don’t know what they are planning for this year... perhaps the conductor and his musicians will be inspired by Sergeant Pepper to wear moustaches, or full flower-power regalia?

This event is an excellent representation not only of the values of the festival, which always enjoys introducing the general public to surprising artistic performances, but also of the Darwin centre, which is committed to serving and entertaining the community, and the ONBA, which is always ready to find new audiences for classical music. A joyful celebration of the excellent wines that can be produced by winegrowers who have adopted exemplary environmental practices, accompanied by an imaginative, highly original musical performance...

Love, love, love, promises to have a distinctly British flavour!
