A rather unusual bottle will be departing from the Mersey docks in Liverpool and crossing the seas on board La Malouine to arrive on the quays of the Garonne, in the heart of Bordeaux Fête le Vin.

Created by English artist Lulu Quinn, who is strongly committed to environmental and a proponent of participatory art, this 8-metre-long bottle has been made out of thousands of plastic bottles that were collected from beaches.

In addition to raising awareness of the problems of plastic pollution, on land and in the sea, the sculpture reconnects with the ancient practice of writing messages in bottles and throwing them into the sea. The artist invited schoolchildren and residents of Liverpool to send messages to the inhabitants of Bordeaux on topics related to the environment.

At night, Lulu Quinn’s bottle turns into a magical beacon, illuminated from the inside.
